A challenge to Christians to respond to our sisters and brothers in the world who live on less than a dollar a day. Most importantly, some practical ideas for how. |

The God of Small Things – By Arundhati Roy. Cruel and uncompromising look at India’s caste system. A beautiful and rich tale set in Kerala. |

The Omnivore’s Dilemma (Michael Pollan) – an indepth and slightly frightening look into America’s industrial agriculture world. He dives in deep, but also looks at some new forms or ag that are refreshing and ver, very exciting. I warn you – might never want to eat corn ever, ever again. |

In Defense of Food (Michael Pollan) – Pollan looks at nutritionism, our North American obsession with healthiness in light of our growing obesity and champions something rather revolutionary. Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly Plants. A fantastic read and a book that has challenged me to really think about what I eat. |

What is the What - By Dave Eggers. An incredible story about one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. Not only the story of Africa, but also his life in America. |

A Generous Orthodoxy - (Brian McLaren). A very important book if all of us Christians from different backgrounds are ever going to try to get along. |

The End of Religion – a new one by Bruxy Cavey. He looks at what kind ofa movement Jesus really intended to start when he lived, died and rose again. |

The Kite Runner & A Thousand Splendid Suns – (Khaled Hassemi) Heartwrenching narratives about Afghanistan. Riveting. Sad. Incredibly, incredibly beautiful. |

A stunning story about two women in Afghanistan. |

Shane Claiborne again. Traces the story of God’s interaction with humanity from the first moments. Discusses what living outside of empire can look like in the 21st century. |

The Irresistible Revolution (Shane Claiborne) – A great challenge to all of us to keep the main thing the main thing and to seriously consider what Jesus said to the wealthy young ruler – to give up all we have and share with the poor. |

This one’s a whopper. Barna and Viola go through the historical traditions of modern Christianity and challenge whether the things we consider biblical in our church context are actually so. It’s challenging and revealing. |
